I was wondering if it was just for me but I can barley pick up enough speed to make the first jump and don't even get close to making the second. Even without me hitting the walls I still had the same problems and I tried for about a hour. Is the game just really hard?

(1 edit)

he probably made the physics rely on how good your game runs and didn't realize it because his computer is too good.

So basically, the higher the frames, the faster the car goes

this is incorrect. You can get as much speed with 30fps as 200+.I’d recommend maybe watching a speed run or my tutorial if you’re struggling! V1.2 should allow you to make the first jumps easily if you understand how basic car mechanics work.

(1 edit)

I've been using unreal for about 3 years, it isn't basic car mechanics that is the issue, it's a game physics thing. Look at this link it explains it https://medium.com/polars-development-blog/getting-physics-right-for-polars-in-u...

This is already implemented like I said, substepping is enabled and I’ve looked into this already before release.

such an achievement learn how to make games and release this, great job man! I am self-taught myself but making games in Unity, just stick with it!

Just a heads up, night version 1.2 is flagging as a virus in Windows Defender: Trojan:Script/Wacatac.B!ml

(+1)

I can assure you there’s nothing there aha, double check your virus software.

I played ver 1.1. I had a GTX 1660 PC and with all graphics settings set to middle I was able to get 60 FPS. At first I played with a keyboard, but after playing with a gamepad, I found it very easy to control the steering wheel.

The game was difficult but very challenging and a lot of fun. The course is in the air, and the sky and the ocean are drawn very far away, giving the game a very open feeling, which I personally really enjoyed. I could see the course ahead, so I was motivated even when I got stuck.

I didn't realize that I accidentally pressed the C key after returning to the rotating looping scene, and the car body slowed down and I thought it was broken.

This is a really good game!

thanks! Glad you enjoyed it :)

The game is fun.
Is it intentional that all the surfaces feel very slippery

The music is way too loud compared to the engine sound (sometimes it gets suddenly louder) so I had to toggle the music off which is sad because it adds a cool atmosphere.

Biggest problem I had with the game where wierd bounces mosttly on landing.

when I play it is really bright and yellow

(1 edit)

That's what I'm getting to, and I'm not sure why. If anyone has a fix, I would love to play this game :)

(1 edit)

Are you using Iris XE GPU?

Yes I am. How’d you know?

it’s an issue with that GPU, struggling to handle certain graphic components of Unreal Engine games. Not sure if there’s a fix for it yet!

quick question what is the min specs to run this game

(1 edit) (+1)(-2)

make a gnu/linux port

(+1)

i love the game alot, been fun watching you slowly create this masterpiece. i have been play testing for a while and it might just be me, but the red loop always forces me to left no matter how hard i steer, eventually i made it even though it felt like luck. the long white tunnel is very precise to if you dont have like 270kph you arent making it. ik its supposed to be hard, but car is not responsive enough for precise jumps like that in my opinion, I do look forward to any updates you may do! amazing game and runs great on my pc though

(2 edits)

It took me some time to get used to the high difficulty but I'm really enjoying the game. I've just found a shortcut that works and another potential one.

My current record is:1:45:633

Awesome! Yeah some shortcuts are available on current version for some fun testing. Next version will respawn car when it lands in water :)

(4 edits)

Sounds good! The difficulty of the game is perfect in my opinion. Doesn't take too long to get used to it but there is not much room for mistakes. Really appreciate this game and your continued effort!

Edit: If I go too fast (absolute optimal line) I land weirdly and bounce on the ramp prior to the replacement of the leap of faith. Only issue so far

(1 edit)

The game is fine, there could be more music and after a few mins i find myself turning it off. The car doesn't feel much responsive. The track is VERY difficult and i see you keep saying thats the point but there still are more and more people starting to say it. Some of the jumps require you get the PERFECT slight movements to preform some jumps.

(+1)

Has been fixed, expect update within a few days :)

Alright! Keep up the awesome work tho :) i know what it feels like being a developer and this has got some potential. Can't wait for them youtube shorts using this game in the background lmao :D

😊👍

Can you make a version for mac please

(1 edit) (+2)(-1)

can you plz add keybind option so i can change w a s d to the arrows

(-1)

HOW DARE YOU! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

i use my mouse with  my left hand

(-1)

just press Fn + W on your keyboard and Windows will switch arrow keys with wasd

what if i don't have fn on my keyboard?

(-1)

Maybe a software to rebind the keys or search On screen keyboard and bring that up

(1 edit)

It would be great to have keybinds, but until then you can fix this really easily using AutoHotKey.  In fact it's so easy I just went ahead and wrote the script in a couple of seconds.

To do it, just install AutoHotKey - it's easy to find by googling - then open a file in notepad and paste in these four lines:

Up::W

Down::S

Left::A

Right::D

This code tells AHK to replace the key on the left with the key on the right when it's typed.

Save that file as something like wasdarrows.ahk, then double click it to run it.  You can test if it's working in notepad.  I just tried it and it works in this game.

Then when you're done there should be a green icon with an H in it in the tray on the taskbar.  Just right click that and exit and you've got your arrow keys back!

you did not just say that

wasd is a lot better

(+2)

Congrats on your first project, really good in that context.

As for critique, honestly gotta join the other peeps in the comments, the game is too hard. I know that's the point but it just starts out impossible for 99% of the traffic you'll get here. Which leads to most players giving you feedback from tryin to get the first jump done for 5 minutes before deciding to drive all over the ocean floor. Which is what I did before finding out about the slowdown... Which made me clear the first jump but then was so slow I didn't wanna continue like that.

There's nobody who'll judge you for releasing a short easy game, especially on itch.io where people wanna get tastes of hundred kinds of games. But I totally get wanting to cater to a niche (especially as I see you've already got a good following on youtube), my first project also ended up with sections far too hard for average traffic.

I'd advice to give the games intro something easier to let people who are unfamiliar tip into what you are doing, doesn't even have to be much, just something short that beginners can get through.

Other than that I also gotta mention the graphics feel bloated. Of course not to downplay the experience you gained from going for this style and the work you put into it, but the final product just looks generic to me and eats resources for no good reason.

I can't give you any specific advice because I use Godot and don't know how things are dealt with in Unreal Engine. But generally speaking I would reccommend to try tone effects down, there's no real need for those reflections and lighting effects. It might feel like an insane difference when comparing it side to side in the engine, but if you have a passable color balance barely anyone will actually take not of the fact that the orange of some block isn't realistically reflected onto another surface.

But then again, knowing which parts of the graphics to turn down while staying within  certain style is a hard thing to do. So don't get too worked up about it, it ran for me after turning everything to the lowest setting so you didn't make any catastrophical mistake where the base is only playable with a great graphics card and the lowest setting changes absolutely nothing.

I can't play the game.

Apex Rush Night Thunder.rar

How do I get the . Rar file to work for Windows 10

Please help

You need to unpack it, watch the tutorial :)

i found it thanks

(+3)(-1)

I've played for 19 min and cant get passt the thing after the tunnel. This game has potential but is way to hard You have to do everything to perfection too complete a single obstacle i don't know if this was intended but still a 5/10, needs work

(-1)

it is intended to be challenging :) There’s lots of ways to gain speed with steering inputs and paths to take. I’d recommend looking at some speedruns that can be found in the Discord server!

(1 edit) (+2)(-1)

While that may be true i would advise against making your game overchallenging as current set up is straight up frustrating. You have to learn how to play this game as the steering is very unresponsive with keyboard, the first smooth portion followed by sharp turn shortly after makes it impossible to follow racing lines properly without learning how to play the game instead of knowing how the car works.

I've played a lot of simulators/simcades and arcade racing games and I'd strongly advise for you to either improve car's grip and decrease it's bouciness (make suspension a little stiffer) as current handling gives off very poor vibes and feels unpleasant to drive.

Edit: also the fact that you have to nail every corner perfectly in some weird manner in order to make the jumps and well, play the game basically makes it discouraging from the first few minutes of gameplay.

I personally even after playing for around 15 minutes have issues with car bouncing off weirdly from time to time when you try to steer it onto jumps and off the spinning cylinder in the first part.

+1 similar experience.

Just copy the car physics from Trackmania. It will be perfect.

Lol, I’m not making Trackmania. The difference is this is fully physics based, it’s still the first playtest so a lot can be improved, including handling.

The trackmania physics would be perfect actually. you should make a version with it

(-1)

I hear you, the steering inputs can be improved and I’m testing new settings daily, V1.1 fixed some delay in steering and allows for more steering capabilties. Try instead of holding down in every corner tap to steer more.

As noted the physics engine for the car is still in beta, and have small bugs like one’s you mentioned.

A lot of people have no issues learning the handling so it might just be some training needed, but I will work to improve steering & handling for the next update.

Thanks for the help bro. After watching a couple of speedruns i gpt the hang of it. Its actually really fun when you learn. Obviusly not a perfect game but one of the best 1st games ever!! I have watched ypur content for a while and really like the devlog series. Love what your doing bro keep it up. New rating: 8/10 :)

2.45.058

Took a while to get the handle of it, but finally made it under 3min

1. Music needs to be a little bit quieter, because most of the time I cant even hear the engine.

2. Handling/steering could be a tiny bit better. Just a little bit.

3. Landing can be sometimes be weird in some places.

4. 1st person camera will not return back to 3rd person when I mess up on the loop and have to restart at the checkpoint.

5. Would definitely love a leaderboard/ish window, where I could check all of my best times that I have finished in. (like top 3 best times or something like that)

6. Right before the jump to the loop the track goes downwards a little bit and the camera goes directly behind the car so I cant see where to turn.

Other than that the game is pretty solid and good. Really looking forward to improvements and possibly new maps and cars in the future. Maybe even more soundtrack. Who knows.

You can urn off the music in teh pause menu, personally i would just listen to my own music in teh abckround

(+1)(-1)

love this game!

(+1)

Nice game! Loved the part where my car went brrr!

(+1)

All I get is a black screen

specs?

(+2)

There is a small problem with your checkpoint system. You don't need them to end the map. You can drive off the road, jump to the ramp that leads to CP4, and end from there. An easy fix would be to check if all CPs are collected at the end of the map. Tested on 1.1 day.

(+1)

Yep I’m aware of this! Will look into adding a system for checking crossed points :)

(+2)(-1)

Very nice game!

(1 edit) (+1)
i really liked the game, the only thing that bothered me was the resolution, my monitor is 1360x768 and both in 720p when 1080p was not good in full screen

Found a bug where if you go on the part where it switches the camera to First Person and then proceed to reset it keeps it in First Person instead of also resetting it back to Third Perso

(+1)

Am aware of this and will be fixed :)

(+1)

I loved the game and hope you continue.10/10

Is it difficult, to build a Mac-compatible version?

I know I know we don't play on Mac, but I don't have anything else, right now :D

PLEASE HELP its .rar for me why is it like this?

check the tutorial or install instrucions

(+1)

Can you make a web version? i cant download this on school chromebook...

(+1)(-1)

way to demanding for a web version, so not planning on it :)

Would you be able to elaborate on that, do you have to change sprites and like dumb the game down so it can be on web version?

it’s too graphically advanced to be a browser game.

ok, that's a-ok and what I thought might be it...I'll be sure to play it later in life! I'll come back and I will still watch ur channel!

Honest review of a hobby game dev and Trackmania enthusiast:

  1. The game is VERY sluggish to run, even on low settings, reduced resolution and windowed mode. My PC is not low spec, more like mid, so I should be getting some mildly better performance; Unreal engine is a bad choice imo;
  2. You should add settings to change controls from WASD to the arrow keys;
  3. The track is waaay too difficult. Since the car has some input lag, combined with how tight the track is and how landing bugs occur on half the times I land a jump, the track is needlessly difficult. And if you dont get the perfect turn, you can forget about even landing the first jump. It feels more like a rage game, rather than a time attack. You need to let your players actually finish the track in order for them to even attempt the leaderboard challenge.
  4. As mentioned above, the road is very tight for the size of the car, and too shiny. Its difficult to gauge distances and curves with all the glare from the surrounding sky and terrain.
  5. With how difficult the map is to even maneuver, let alone finish, at least place checkpoints a little bit more often.

Overall good first attempt, but much is lacking. Good luck with future updates.

(+1)(-1)

Thanks for the fededback! As for #1, I've tweaked the game optimization for a 40fps increase and will post and updated version later today.

2. This will be added in the future.

3.It's meant to be tricky! I've taken feedback with people finding the jumps hard, and increased the top speed with about 5kmh, making it easier to land jumps. I've also tweaked the steering rate so there's less of a delay.

Appreciate the feedback! Let me know if it feels better to play after the new version is out :)

Just tried out v1.1

FPS is very good now. But the car engine is nowhere to be heard. Music sound is fine though.

With the better FPS I was able to reach the second white tunnel, which is nice.

But this leads me to say what I and many have said before - its too hard. I understand you want it to be hard, but even the first jump is difficult. Any difficult game at least give the player a moment to adjust and learn the basics. Your first checkpoint is close to the start, but to reach it and the following road you need to make a perfect turn which is IMMEDIATELY after the start and has a really weird angle of turning. Not getting it perfect just either means you bonk the checkpoint, or clip the back wheels on the following road, either flinging you into the side, or killing your speed for the rest of the track.

Next part is fine, tube and ring jump is alright, but it needs to have a checkpoint after you land the rings. But for landing the road after the jump outside the second tunnel - please add some marker in the sky, and arrow or a landmark to aim. Driving through a white pipe, with the only thing visible at the end being the bright blue sky, I have no idea where to aim. Even if I think I have the perfect straight line, the pipe just decides I'm flying to the left of the road.

Overall, 1.1 is a big improvement on performance, but your mapping is frustrating and the controls need to be expanded to arrows. Car handling is a whole other beast I'm not going to review today.

(+2)

i just played this today and was thinking what's wrong with the controls today. this comment made me realize it was a slight input lag. i think games should immediately respond to input event even if there is an animation to be runned (except death/fail situations of course).

i'm not gonna rant about performance/optimization, since people already said that.

one of my problem was the main menu is too much generic. there is near perfect designs in unreal markeplace and artstation. @Hazardous i think you should implement a good UI template for menus. i personaly in love with UI of the Control game. (ref: https://interfaceingame.com/games/control/)

Overall, the game has a good future i presume. I hope this comes to Steam even as a early access title. I would definitely buy for supporting you.

thanks for the tip! Yes the menu is very basic, no custom graphics as I focused more on the gameplay. A custom UI like that would be great if it's ever made into a full game!

(+1)

how do you guys do the first jump

YAAAY! I've been following your progress on YouTube and I want to say CONGRATS on the launch!!!

(+1)

Why does my game look like this can someone help cuz I realy wanna play this game :(

(-1)

The same thing is happening to me too.  Can someone please help???

did u download the day time to or the night time one?

(1 edit)

I did both and neither work

damn idk what it could be

ye me neither

what GPU are you using?

intel(r) uhd graphics

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti Laptop GPU and all the drivers are all updated.

that’s very odd, should be no issues with that card. I have it written down and will look into it!

thank you!!!

(+3)

Just wanted to say congrats on the launch, game looks awesome just hope that there is potentially a Mac version in the works so that way i can try it out myself :)

I played the game i like it but i would like if You could add in the setting a bar for the engine sound to make it sound louder or quiter

hey i need help with something whenever i launch the game it says fatal error

(1 edit) (+1)

for more realistic materials, there is a free automative materials pack with realistic paint, colours and more:

https://www.unrealengine.com/marketplace/en-US/product/automotive-material-pack

I have a problem, the game starts up but does not pass the loading screen? Any solutions?

im not sure if its just me but there is insane drag on my care whenever I turn left or right. after I turn to straighten myself, it puts me back into a slight turn.

(+1)

developer of this game, is this a rage game?

(+1)(-1)

haha, could be challenging for some. Many people have finished in less than 3 mins so just takes some practice!
